The Health Benefits of Olive Oil

posted by admin in

By joseph sterling
Olive oil – the juice one makes by pressing an olive – has countless uses. Unlike other oils, many ways to use olive oil prove beneficial to human health. When picking out olive oil for cooking, the European grading system is based on the presence of free fatty acids, indicators of lower quality, damage and instability; “extra virgin olive oil,” for example, can contain less than .8% free fatty acids and “virgin” olive oil can contain less than 2%. In America, Grade A olive oil has a fatty acid content of 1.4% or less. Grade B is 2.5% or lower, Grade C is 3% and “fairly free from defects,” and Grade D is 3% or higher and “fails to meet the requirements of US Grade C.” First cold press olive oil is most desirable, as it yields the most consistent extra virgin olive oils. Here are a handful of health benefits:

1. Olive oil is lower in saturated fats than other oils.
Soybean oil, vegetable shortening, lard, and butter all contain significantly more saturated fat than olive oil, which offers a much larger amount of monounsaturated fat. The higher monounsaturated fat count has been said to help reduce the amount of LDL, or “bad” cholesterol while helping to bring up HDL, or “good” cholesterol levels. This then may help reduce your risk of heart disease.

2. Olive oil can be used as a skin moisturizer and revitalizer.
People can use olive oil to cleanse and moisturize one’s face and skin, as well as a way to remove earwax buildup by dropping it into one’s ears. Olive oil provides the skin with antioxidants, Vitamin A and E, and other treatments that have shown potential to help skin regenerate and recover from damage in the wake of pollution, cigarette smoke, and other environmental factors. Some people also recommend washing the backs of their ears with olive oil to clean a space that few people think of but where unpleasant buildups can happen.

3. Olive oil may help prevent colon cancer.
Research has shown that rats fed olive oil supplements develop colon cancer at a significantly lower rate than rats fed diets heavier in safflower oil. The olive oil fed-rats develop cancer at rates similar to rats that had consumed fish oil, which has also been shown to potentially reduce colon cancer rates.

4. Olive oil can help to deep condition hair and control dandruff.
Mixtures of olive oil and water after shampooing, then followed by an additional shampooing, can help to make hair shinier, stronger, and cleaner. People who suffer from intense dandruff buildups can benefit from the addition of olive oil to their showering routine, as it’ll stop the buildup of unsightly dandruff flakes in your hair, on you, and on your clothing.

5. Olive oil can help to reduce stomach irritation and bring down the potential to develop gallstones.
Individuals suffering from stomach issues may benefit from cooking with olive oils more than other cooking oils. Unlike other oils, olive oil helps trigger hormones from the pancreas and helps the stomach secrete bile, helping to weaken both ulcers
and painful symptoms associated with gastritis. This combination of factors helps to bring down one’s risk of developing gallstones, which are made up of crystalized bile and can lead to pancreatitis, jaundice, and other painful symptoms
.

How the Mediterranean Diet Beats High Blood Pressure

posted by admin in

By Kevin Riley
The Mediterranean diet is not some new fad diet … dreamed up by a weight-loss “guru” or as a new health measure. It is thousands of years old. People living along the Mediterranean Sea have been eating a natural diet … that has been proven in numerous studies to reduce the risk of heart attack and keep blood pressure from rising.

The great thing about the Mediterranean diet is … it’s a pleasure to eat and you’re much more likely to stick with it. It’s easy to adopt this diet as there are no special requirements. Unlike the radical requirements of many fad diets, the Mediterranean diet doesn’t ask you to make impractical changes in your eating … it offers you a way of eating that you can maintain long-term. It will lead you to long-term health benefits.

What is a Mediterranean Diet

Amongst the people of Greece, southern France, and parts of Italy … natural whole foods are a large part of the diet. Fruits and vegetables, fish, nuts, and organic extra virgin olive oil are the heavy hitters in protecting your heart and lowering your blood pressure. Drinking wine with meals is an old custom … and gives even more health benefits.

The Mediterranean diet doesn’t look at all fats as bad. Instead, this way of eating makes wise choices in the fats that are used. Low in saturated fat … the Mediterranean diet is full of healthy omega-3 fatty acids and monounsaturated fats.

Since mainly whole foods are eaten along the Mediterranean Sea … the deadly trans-fats — found in fast foods and bakery goods — are greatly reduced.

Living on a Sea Gives you Lots of Fish

Fish are a big part of the Mediterranean diet. Eating lots of fish has been recognized as being heart protective for quite a while, now. Especially, fatty fish are good for your heart and blood pressure … they are full of healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

Eating fish 2-3 times a week is a great way to lower blood pressure and ensure a long, healthy life.

Lots of Olive Trees Grow Along the Mediterranean Sea

Olive trees grow on sunny hillsides … providing both tasty olives and golden organic extra virgin olive oil. Olive oil is used in most Mediterranean cooking … drizzled on rough chunks of whole-grain bread, mixed in salads, used in making tomato sauces. The flavonoids in virgin organic extra virgin olive oil lower blood pressure and increase your levels of good HDL cholesterol.

That … and organic extra virgin olive oil tastes great and gives off a wonderful fragrance when heated.

Nuts Are an Ancient Energy Source

Since the Stone Age, nuts have been an important source of energy. Shunned a few decades ago because of their high fat content … nuts were given a bum rap. The fats in nuts are good fats … healthy fats that will lower your blood pressure and protect your heart.

Just a handful of nuts — especially walnuts — is a tasty way to protect your heart.

Wash Your Meal Down With a Glass of Red Wine

A glass of red wine goes great with Mediterranean meals. Your heart will also enjoy the glass of wine. Red wine is rich in healthy flavonoids — anti-oxidants that protect your heart from dangerous free radicals. Enjoy a daily glass or two and lower your blood pressure … lower your risk of heart attack.

Recent studies have shown that light red wine drinkers have less risk than non-drinkers. Just don’t over-do it.

A Great Diet to Start Today

The main feature of the Mediterranean diet is the focus on natural whole foods … a shift away from unhealthy processed foods with their dangerous bad fats. And, the good thing is … it’s so easy to get started. Nothing radical … just ask those who live healthy lives along the Mediterranean Sea.

BlackBerry Spyware – Detecting It

posted by admin in About Me, Blogging, General, Hobbies and Interests, Miscellaneous

BlackBerry Spyware – Detecting It

There has been a marked rise in the number of reported cases of BlackBerry tracking. With the way this is going, it has become very necessary that anyone who owns a BlackBerry should take time to know how to both identify the presence of a spyware and how to have it or them removed.

How Can I Detect The Presence Of Spyware On My BlackBerry?

If you do easily give your phone to others to make calls, check some things or even download games, the chances that you have a spyware installed are much higher because it does not take a long time to install this app.

To find out if there is a spyware on your BlackBerry phone, check the following:

* Have you noticed and unexplainable increase in your data cost? Your data charges would seem higher than normal because the spyware would use it to upload the information it gathers to the remote server.

* When you make or receive calls, do you hear something like an echo or sometimes a click? This could be as a result of an advanced spyware with the ability to allow the installer listen in on your calls.

* You may decide to just scan your BlackBerry to be sure. There are some applications that would scan your BlackBerry, find any spyware and remove it.

After you decided that you likely have a spyware on your phone, your next move of course would be to have it removed. You can use any of the following ways.

As shown earlier, you can use a software for both the scanning and removal.

Your next option is to visit a service center and have them re-install your operating system. This would involve wiping your phone clean. No spyware can survive when you do this. You may also find that your BlackBerry would work better especially if there were some software issues you were not aware of.

When a person installs a spyware on your phone, they get to know too much about you. Regularly check to know if there is a spyware on your BlackBerry. Keep these BlackBerry spyware tips in mind, otherwise someone could have this type of BlackBerry spying software app on your BB.

Electronic Cigarettes A Tidy Alternative to Smoking?

posted by admin in Blogging

Electronic Cigarettes A Tidy Alternative to Smoking?

Walking through the streets of my local town earlier, I noticed something that seems to have become an increasing problem in the last couple of years. Litter…its a personal bugbear of mine and something that the UK has struggled with for as long as I can remember. For a so called civilised nation to have such an appalling problem is nothing short of, well, appalling!
What does this have to with electronic cigarettes? I am getting there, bear with me. The ban on smoking in public places has caused a litter problem all by itself. Okay, so there have always been a certain amount of cigarette stubs littering the countrys streets and pavements, adding and increasing to the eyesore. Whatever happened to Keep Britain Tidy?
However, the smoking ban had another trick up its sleeve, namely to send all smokers of pubs up and down the nation onto the street. Often right onto the towns high streets and next door to shops and stores. Its not smokers fault of course, they are merely going where they have been sent but I walked past one pub today and there was quite literally a carpet of dirty, used cigarette stubs on the pavement! Not to mention the slalom course one has to take to weave in and out of all those enjoying their cigarette.
On another street there was a line of dustbins, on the top of which was piled several inches of yet more cigarette stubs. Now, I must clarify that these particular bins had been designed with a little metal bit at the top to enable smokers to put out their cigarettes before depositing them inside the bin. Basically the whole thing is very unsightly and a definite problem.
What can be done? Well, here is the electronic cigarette bit! Electronic cigarettes have no stub to put out, there is no flame and no smoke and after the user has vaped, they can simply put the e cig back into their pockets and carry on. Just imagine for a moment if you would, the implication this would have on our towns and cities if this product with outstanding potential was to really take off and replace tobacco cigarettes.
Electronic cigarette users could all stay inside the pub and not only would the pub not need ash trays but they would not need to send all the smokers outside into the cold and in turn they wouldnt have to go and sweep the street clear of dirty cigarette stubs when they closed.
Needless to say the electronic cigarette conundrum poses much food for thought.

3 Amazing Green Tea Benefits You Should Know About

3 Amazing Green Tea Benefits You Should Know About

Most of the food lifestyle and celeb rags this week are harping on about green tea weight loss, and rightly so it seems. Not only is it a uplifting drink, it’s nutritious and may help you lose weight at the same time. Green tea is a simple beverage that Asians have been drinking for thousands of years. However, people who care about natural health, and bringing it to people everywhere, have been writing and talking about what this plant can do for decades. What’s more, since the scientific community has begun studying green tea, there are positive signs that certain medical problems can be helped with this plant food. So, whether you want to drink it or take in capsule, you can do that and enjoy the benefits it has to offer. There is a ton of information available on green tea; but for now we’ll restrict our conversation to just a couple of great benefits from this plant.

Everybody has a theory about how to lose weight, one of the simple things you could easily integrate into your typical routine is drinking green tea. Ok, up first is a mention of how much green tea can help those who want to lose extra weight. Most diet pharmas, prescription or not, contain stimulants; and that is their modus operandi. Well, one aspect of green tea is that it has natural stimulants in it which serve to boost your metabolism. You’ll be able to metabolize fat better, plus the extra energy you will have can help you find the motivation to do more exercise – or at least be more active. You can’t expect to lose weight simply by drinking green tea, as you also have to watch your diet and get regular exercise.

Yes, green tea naturally produces some strong antioxidants that are extremely helpful to neutralize toxins and poisons in your body. Antioxidants can help to control your blood pressure and cholesterol and may even help prevent certain types of cancer. There is one particular kind of antioxidant that is just terrific, EGCG (epigallocatechin-3-gallate), and it is responsible for quite a few benefits within the body. That is the same as what you’ll find in vegetables and fruit, although there are obvious differences, etc. Perhaps 3 or 4 cups of green tea during your day, and then of course have some fruits and vegetables with meals, etc.

Another outstanding effect of green tea on the body is in the area of detoxification which will help out your liver. Back to antioxidants, there are even more, and they’re called catechins; and they provide healthy support to your immune system. This is really fantastic news because your liver is so important for ridding your body of environmental poisons and toxins that make their way into your body. To get the most protection from green tea, you would ideally consume three to four cups every day, or the equivalent of this in supplement form.

It’s exciting to think that when more experiments are performed, scientists will probably find more good stuff about green tea. We can safely say that it is a nutritious and healthy beverage or supplement for many different reasons, including to the ones discussed above. You can help yourself even more by doing some exercise plus eating in a more healthy manner. Just a few cups of green tea every day will take you farther than you realize.

The above benefits of green tea are only a few of the ones that have become known recently. How you decide to take-in this plant food is up to you, so maybe it’s best to talk to your knowledgeable health store consultant. If you take it regularly, you will enjoy more of the benefits.

Exactly What Partners Ought to Discover Regarding Alimony and Spousal Maintenance

There are a variety of aspects which are considered in the event the court examines a petition for spousal support within Pennsylvania. Some examples are the amount of time the partners were married, the education and earning capabilities of the dependent spouse, the specific economic capabilities of each party, their respective ages, and also any marital wrong doings that could have resulted in the divorce proceedings. It’s advisable to indicate that alimony or spousal maintenance payments can be step-by-step or made in a single lump sum payment, and they might be indefinite or short-term. Often spousal support is going to be instructed as a “rehabilitative” measure, giving the dependent wife or husband a little while in order to complete their education or otherwise obtain the financial footing that is required to make progress independently.

For those who have questions or worries about an alimony or spousal maintenance matter, the best divorce lawyer Pittsburgh Pennsylvania will provide you with the help you’re looking for with your Pittsburgh PA divorce.

Tips for Baby Gifts

Whether expecting a baby or looking for a baby gift, finding the perfect item for baby can be a complicated one. There are so many items to choose from, each with its special appeal. A few simple tips to help find the perfect baby gifts are:
Take the colors that the expectant mother is using to decorate. If she is decorating the room in pinks and blues, then get gifts that are complimentary to the color. If she is decorating the room in bright shades, then baby presents like bright mobiles would be a wonderful addition to the room. Personalize the baby gift. Many baby gifts such as a baby cup can be personalized with the babies name or date of birth.
The most important aspect of giving baby presents is that it is something that the baby will be able to use. Whether a knick knack for their room, clothing or something to play with.

Business Consulting

Business Consulting
business consulting firms are often contacted when a company cannot reach its full potential. A consultant will come in a look at all aspects of the company. They will then examine each one individually and start to make corrections. One of the main things a company can do is stay ahead of the game by becoming aware of how businesses around them operate.
