Did you know that around the world, 3 to 6 billion trees are cut down every year. There is so much that is created from trees and this means there is a huge demand in the marketplace. Such as wood to put up dwellings, paper for writing on and even toilet paper for, well you know. It is possible to act to save our forests although we need to accept that a lot of the goods made from trees are necessary.
While I know that we have Arbor Day, and we all should plant a tree every Arbor Day, that is simply taking care of a small part of the problem. In reality, trees are not being planted by the majority of the population. If they did, we would be all set.
There are roughly seven billion humans alive in the world today. That is just an estimate as you can’t keep an exact count. But then, if each of those 7 billion folks went out and planted a tree every Arbor Day, we would be replacing all the trees that were felled that year. We are aware that this is not likely to take place.
Therefore, planting trees is something you should consider if you are concerned about the air we breathe and the planet. I am not limiting this to planting trees on only one day each year. Once a month is a good objective or why not every week? We must try to make up for people who don’t plant trees even though they go on using the earth’s valuable resources.
On Arbor Day, the number of trees planted is between 8 and 15 million. Hence annually, we have a shortage of more or less 5 billion trees. This situation continues to get worse.
Whereas individuals need to make the effort to plant trees, I have an idea that might resolve this once and for all. If a law could be enacted that whenever a tree is cut down by logging companies, they then had to plant two new ones, this could truly make a huge difference.
But then, until someone can turn this into reality, we are left to take care of replacing the trees ourselves. Trying to keep those tree numbers up will not really take a lot of effort. The number of trees felled every year could be replaced if ten percent of the world’s population planted one tree once a month. In yearly terms, this would equal to the planting of about 7 billion trees. For the number of trees we need to return to, an effective net gain of 1 billion trees will be the way to achieve this goal.
Thus for anyone who wants to make a positive difference to our planet, go plant a tree. Don’t forget that we merely need 10% of the world’s population to commit to this. And you could be one of them.
